Welcome back to Bloomington, it is good to see
both the old and new club members making it out to runs this first week of
school. Our attendance numbers indicate progress in our club's development
and give hope for better things to come. It appears that we'll be able to
field a women's team at this year's NIRCA nationals, which we have yet to do
each of the last two years. The men's side looks stronger than ever before
which should set us up to be in contention for a NIRCA title this fall.
A few changes to our club's style this fall
can be seen by our new apparel, new leadership, and new mindset to training,
racing, and enjoying ourselves while running. The club will be making a
greater effort to participate in local road races on weekends and have a much
more flexible training philosophy, giving more room for a member to fit in
whether striving to be competitive or looking for the camaraderie of a team.
It is important to stress that you can make the club what you want it to be,
whether a social outlet to stay in shape, or a chance at working towards a spot
on the Varsity team. All areas are just as important as one another.
If ever you as a member of our group feel like trying something new or planning
events outside of running, I most certainly encourage it.
The main focus of the club for the year is NIRCA
cross country in the fall, enjoying runs in the winter, and preparing for the
Indy Mini and Little Fifty in the spring. Other areas that members most train
for outside of the focus is other road races, half and full marathons, and track
races. I look forward to enjoying many runs and building long-lasting
friendships with all our club members.
